legendary musician levon helm, drummer (and singer) for the band, has passed.
he was 71.
helm fought a long and brave fight against throat cancer, and had only just recently become gravely ill.
the family posted the following message on his website...
"Levon Helm passed peacefully this afternoon. He was surrounded by family, friends and band mates and will be remembered by all he touched as a brilliant musician and a beautiful soul."
